CUSTOMIZED PCI ADD-ON CARD FOR A REPUTED SOFTWARE MNC AND DRDO LAB
Bit Mapper - VLSI Design & Training
  1. A PCI based Data Buffer and data logger was designed. An add-on card was designed to receive 16 GB of data at the speed of 132MB per Second; process it to check for the validity of data by creating time stamp models and then transmit it (16 GB at 132MB/Sec) to Data logger. This found application in Aero-defense RADAR application of CASSA (DRDO, Bangalore). The entire project was carried out from concept to product level and was implemented in Xilinx- Spartan-II chip. PCI interface is of 32 bit /33 Mhz with 4 channel DAC/ADC (resolution 12 bit). There is an onboard 64*9 FIFO. Sampling frequency provided is of 100KHz.

  1. UART 16550 - Universal Asynchronous and Receiver Transmitter was designed which was PC 16550 National compatible. Features incorporated were- programmable data length, programmable Baud and stop bits, full duplex operation, Error detection and test bench for all the modes were written. Entire programming was done in Verilog.
  2. Timer counter 8254- IP core of 82C54-2 was designed using Verilog HDL. It had on the fly read capability, binary /BCD counting facility, status read back of all counters was incorporated.
SENSOR FOR AN AUTOMOBILE MAJOR

  1. A customized Automobile sensor cum harness tester was designed having its own unique software coupled with its powerful onboard processor and FPGA. All client specifications were met successfully like – To test the cable harness for inter pin or wire shorts, cross connections of wire from one end to other, wire chaffing, intermittent faults etc. To check for the presence of sensors and check whether their parameters lie within the permitted range, which is programmable. Special features incorporated were portability (dim. 22X20X8 & wt.1.5 Kgs) and ease of use. This specific product can be reengineered to suit the specific applications of R&D, Production departments and servicing branches of any automobile industry.

  1. A 3 axis DRO (Digital Read Out System) was designed for precision lathe machine for movement control of the tool (clock-wise or anticlockwise). The logic was put into Xilinx SPARTAN-II FPGA. Extra specifications implemented were of keyboard & display controller. This design was implemented up to board level design and a 4 layer PCB was designed.
PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROJECT FOR PUNE BASED UPS MANUFACTURER

  1. A glue logic based project was done for the client’s product (UPS) .The nos. of PCBs (power cards) got reduced by using VLSI design concepts.

  1. A 16-bit Binary to BCD converter interface for a binary Shaft encoder was implemented in CPLD- 9536.This was incorporated into a Bag Filter Controller.
  2. A 3-Phase frequency synthesizer was designed to generate high-speed transient free frequencies of very good resolutions. It was a single FPGA solution - with external DAC’s. The Frequency, Amplitude, and Duty Cycle of the synthesizer output were programmable, through a key board [again interfaced to the FPGA].
  3. In the client’s existing Volumetric Specific Fuel Consumption Meter improved design reuse concepts were applied. It was a single chip solution making the product user-friendly and cheap.
